Brian Rothwell, who ended a long losing run over jumps when Celtic Blaze won at Wetherby on Saturday, can score at Sedgefield tomorrow.
The trainer, based at Nawton near Helmsley, saddles Always Rainbows in the cantorsport Classified Hurdle and the six-year-old can get back on the glory trail.
Once a useful handicapper on the Flat when trained in Ireland by John Oxx, Always Rainbows proved a smart addition to Rothwell's yard when doing well as a novice hurdler. But he then lost his way, and in addition to a virus in the yard last winter, he now finds himself two years on from his last success.
He has, though, been performing well in recent starts and although he is not the sort of horse on which you'd risk the mortgage, he must surely have a sound chance in this modest contest.
Harry Hogarth, who is based at Stillington, has his small string in good form and Capybara should go well for him in the cantorodds.com Maiden Chase over three miles and three furlongs.
David O'Meara's mount finished a good second to Indy Mood over hurdles at Newcastle last month. This switch to fences should not inconvenience the gelding, a point-to-point winner in Ireland.
Harry Hooly should not be overlooked in the Cantor Sport Handicap Hurdle.
A runaway winner at Hexham two outings ago, Harriet Graham's charge has since run well in defeat at Carlisle again over a trip - two and a half miles - which is short of his best.
He is a previous winner here over three miles and three-and-a-half furlongs, which he faces tomorrow, and this relentless galloper is napped to get back on top.
Southwell's eight-race Flat card provides Tony Culhane the opportunity to ride a couple more winners before he heads to the Caribbean for a well-earned holiday.
Culhane, who has been riding winners left, right and centre, has good prospects aboard David Chapman's grand old stalwart Sharp Hat (1.00), who descends to selling company, and also aboard Kennington (3.30), who is overdue a winning turn having finished runner-up on his last three starts.
Moayed can defy a 6lb penalty to win the £20,000 Littlewoods Bet Direct Stakes over five furlongs. A winner at Wolverhampton last week, Moayed is consistent.
