Despite having to rearrange the team prior to kick off York RI gave a commanding display in defeating Thornensians 50-5 in their Yorkshire Three game at New Lane.
RI attacked from the start with powerful runs from Mallon, Smith and Thomas. When stopped the ball was recycled for the backs to carry on the good work.
A slick handling move between Humphries and Grice took the home side to Thornensians' ten metre line and from the ruck Matthew Stewart was on hand to crash over. Mathew Yates converted and kicked a penalty five minutes later.
On the half hour Jon Alexander scored a carbon copy of the first try, Yates converting.
With superiority in the scrums RI dominated the play and when the powerful Mallon set up another try for Humphries it was all over as a contest. Yates added a penalty just before the break to give RI a 27-0 lead.
The second half was only five minutes old when Tim Nash finished off a flowing move between Heslop, Humphries and Grice to cross in the corner. Yates converted.
From a scrum near the home line Thornensians stand-off Potter took a quick pass and dummied over the line.
From the restart a knock-on gave RI the scrum and from a break by Alexander the ball was fed to Webster, who touched down. Two penalties by Yates for ill discipline and a try by Howard Reed completed the scoring.
