MR MOORE has reminded the Fulford community of the loss of the two copper beech trees. We hardly need reminding of this sad and unnecessary loss.
The mounds of bare earth where the magnificent trees once stood now lie like freshly-filled graves.
Of course, Mr Moore lives in a different part of the country and does not have that sight to remind him. In fact, he seemed to have been totally out of touch with the community of Fulford when local residents were desperately trying to save those healthy trees.
I wonder if he will now engage with the community regarding the proposed Connaught Court development. We can see from all the articles and letters in the Evening Press that residents of Fulford, including residents and staff at the Connaught Court nursing home itself, are upset about the development that the RMBI is trying to push through (Round two in battle of Fulford, Nov 25).
The RMBI, being a charity, may claim that it needs to maximise its assets. However, I am expecting the Charity Commission to also be against the development on the grounds that it would blight this historic area of York, and would adversely affect the lives of so many in the local community, especially the elderly and vulnerable.
If RMBI charity continues to ignore the feelings and needs of the local community, then it will also be failing the very people it claims to care for, the residents of Connaught Court.
