YORK Acorn triumphed in the York and District ARL Under-14s Cup final by beating New Earswick All Blacks 14-8.
The match, which saw six York City Knights scholars on show - three on each team - was a great advert for junior rugby.
It began with two tries in the first 15 minutes for Acorn, the first scored by James Bromwich and the second by Grant Spain.
A 70-metre break by Danny Lee was well timed for Acorn as All Blacks were coming back into it with Luke Watling pulling the strings, but Acorn's defence was holding them at bay.
Acorn got going again and a great try by Nathan Potter after an 80-metre break put them on the road to victory.
Acorn's forward power held sway with Bromwich and Tom Wadsworth outstanding.
New Earswick's tries came from their two star performers Adam Caddie and Nick Speck.
