EIGHTEEN people arrested in a massive crime clampdown across York city centre over the weekend have appeared before magistrates.
Prisoners charged with offences ranging from burglary and possession of an offensive weapon, to non-payment of fines and failure to attend court, were dealt with at York Magistrates Court yesterday.
A number of fines were handed out by Deputy District Judge Hodkinson. Two youths aged 15 and 16 were among those in court.
The arrests were part of two major police initiatives - Operation Circle and Operation Caster - to rid the streets of York's most wanted criminals before Christmas.
Operation Circle saw plain clothes officers mingle with festive shoppers to catch offenders unawares.
