SPELLING has long been troublesome for many of us. Look no further than that great authority on the matter, Winnie-the-Pooh, and his observation: "My spelling is Wobbly. It's good spelling but it Wobbles, and the letters get in the wrong places."
As our feature on spelling tonight illustrates, English is a difficult language and people can face all sorts of difficulties. So the BBC is to be congratulated for dedicating a week of Hard Spell programmes to highlighting children whose spelling isn't "wobbly".
Anything which helps put the letters in the right place has got to be a good idea.
