I READ with interest the article "York street parking blitz" surrounding news that the City of York Council is at last doing something about persistent parking offenders (November 25).
Although I wholeheartedly agree with this stance, I'm a little dismayed that the most imaginative idea that that the council could come up with if no one claims the car, nor pays the outstanding penalties, is to crush the offending vehicle.
Who'll pay for that? Local tax payers again, no doubt.
What a waste. Why not auction the car? Then the council would at least recoup some of the cost of the parking wardens' and council officials' time spent on this matter.
We could have a website for bids. How about www.ididnotpay.co.uk or www.cityofyork.gov.uk/wastenotwantnot?
I'll give you £250 for that car on last night's front page. Any more offers?
