ROSIE Redman, the star of Jimmy Turner's Helperby stable, can play a leading role at Doncaster tomorrow.
A progressive performer and a consistent money-spinner last season, Rosie Redman gave notice that her return to winning ways was imminent at Newcastle a couple of weeks ago when she finished a gallant second to Just in Debt.
The value of that form was underlined at Aintree last Sunday when Just In Debt narrowly failed to land the prestigious Becher Chase over the Grand National fences.
Tomorrow's extended three miles should hold no fears for Rosie Redman, a dour stayer, and she is fancied to lift the Clayworth Handicap Chase.
Graham Lee, who rode three winners at Musselburgh yesterday, can also make his mark on the Town Moor programme.
Lee teams-up with Garde Bien from Ferdy Murphy's in-form Middleham stable in the Torworth Novices' Handicap Chase and this dual-winner is fancied to have the edge over top-weight Nowator.
Richard Fahey's Turn Of Phrase should go well in the Retford Handicap Hurdle, while Fantastico has been running solidly enough lately to suggest a bold bid is on the cards from Kate Walton's charge in the Everton Novices' Handicap Hurdle.
Walton also saddles Sikasso in this race, and the gelding will be a first mount over jumps for Keith Dalgleish, highly-successful on the Flat, riding for Middleham trainer Mark Johnston until weight problems caused him to quit last summer.
The second leg of Newbury's Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup meeting is highlighted by the cantorsport.co.uk Novices' Chase, which carries prize money of £35,000.
A fascinating clash is on the cards in this three-miler between Comply Or Die, winner of his last two starts for Martin Pipe, and Cornish Rebel, winner of his only race this season and trained by Paul Nicholls, Pipe's arch-rival.
Slight preference is for Comply Or Die, who has the edge on chasing experience, but it should be an intriguing battle.
The Gardner Mechanical Services Maiden Hurdle brings together Manners and Secret Ploy, both of whom boast impressive unbeaten records in bumpers.
Secret Ploy rattled-up a hat-trick of wins last season, represents Hughie Morrison and Timmy Murphy, while Manners, a recent winner at Cheltenham, carries the hopes of Jonjo O'Neill and Tony McCoy. Both are highly regarded and, although much depends on how each of them jumps on their hurdling debuts, Manners gets the marginal vote from me.
O'Neill's promising Fundamental in the Hennessy Cognac Handicap Hurdle, and the tough The Extra Man, trained by Mick Ryan, and a runner in the Cantor Sport Handicap Chase, are also worthy of support.
Sea Captain, owned by the Queen, is fancied to land the closing Goodtime George Memorial National Hunt Flat Race. Winner of his only race last season, Sea Captain is held in high regard in the Nicky Henderson camp and is one of the horses stable-jockey Mick Fitzgerald is most looking forward to riding this season.
