I have just read your report of the proposed Straylands Road bollard (Clever bollard to stop rat run, November 23) and hang my head in shame.
I am one of the 'bad people', a traffic jam dodger and also, apparently, a rat on a run! I admit it, I'm so sorry. I live in Huntington and when I visit my family in Burnholme or go to Heworth RLFC I do turn into Straylands Grove from Malton Road.
You see I didn't see the signs saying Special People Only, Rats Drive Round. I presume that, as I will no longer be welcome down there, they will not be accepting my taxes to repair their roads and footpaths any more.
Will the road become un-adopted and the responsibility of the Specials? Will they pay their own £60,000 for the bollard? No, thought not.
Hang on a minute though, I have a proposal for the council. Spend £120,000, put one at the Stockton Lane end as well and just keep all the Specials in there. They can keep their Special Area for their Special Cars and never have to leave.
After all I'm sure that none of them would wish to inconvenience me by driving past my house and adding to the traffic jams that occur down my road every rush hour.
Mrs A Marwood,
Strensall Road,
Huntington, York.
