HOW ironic that in the week when York residents can park for £1, the first car should be clamped in the city for non-payment of parking tickets.

The council is right to have such a tough new policy, as illustrated by the selfish behaviour of the driver who picked up 94 tickets.

Frankly, this is taking the mick - and the driver deserves to be punished for his or her inconsiderate and antisocial behaviour.

Clamping may seem harsh, but if most car owners pay up, why should selfish drivers get away with flouting the rules?
