YORK MP Hugh Bayley showed off a new skill when he dropped in to sample the new menu at a city primary.
The health-conscious parliamentarian served lunches at Knavesmire Primary School and got to try out the new menu designed to encourage pupils to eat more healthily.
On the menu were homemade cheese and tomato pizza, green salad and jacket potato wedges followed by a choice of chocolate whirl with bananas, yoghurt or fresh fruit.
School cook Angela Sanderson said it was the third week the menu has been in place and it was going down well with the kids.
Head teacher Carol Weston said: "One of the major targets we set in consultation with staff, parents, governors and pupils was to make provision for healthier school meals and to increase the uptake of school meals.
"After surveying parents' and pupils' views and following discussions with the caterers and kitchen staff a new healthier school menu was introduced this half-term."
