Pocklington produced another workmanlike performance to beat their nearest league rivals West Park Bramhope 18-10 and cement third place in Yorkshire 2.
For the second week running Pocklington conceded a line-out catch and drive try inside five minutes. But they quickly replied in kind to drive over the visitors' line, flanker Scott Littlefair touching down. A free-flowing attack ended with emergency kicker Harry Allen knocking over a penalty when West Park killed the ball.
Pocklington were in the driving seat and another powerful line-out drive brought a penalty try when West Park collapsed the maul. But Allen had his conversion kick charged down.
The hosts remained in control in the second half but good approach play was not turned into points as the last pass was dropped several times as a score loomed.
They were also unlucky when a slick back move sent full-back Guy Hope charging under the posts only to be brought back for a marginal forward pass. But Hope soon got his just desserts when more good back play saw the Pocklington player-coach join the line and carve through to score.
That try, plus West Park having a forward sent off for punching, put Pocklington out of sight. However, they had to respond with some disciplined defence before the visitors broke through to get a consolation try with the last move of the game.
