A LUCKY York granny scooped more than £100,000 playing bingo - then went straight back to work the next morning.

The 56-year-old secretary, who also enjoys quizzes, came up with all the right answers for her bumper win at the city's Mecca Club.

But the woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, refused to get carried away with her "unbelievable" success and was back behind her desk the next day.

Now she plans to put some cash aside for her four-week-old granddaughter and enjoy a nice holiday.

"I just couldn't believe it, I was walking on air," she told the Evening Press.

"You always think it would be nice to win that kind of money, but you never expect it to happen to you."

She cried full house after winning the National Bingo Game prize of £100,000, plus a further regional prize of £1,010 and the club prize of £100.

She completed her triumph in 44 numbers, the lowest call in 500 clubs playing across the UK. The final number that secured her windfall was 73.

The secretary, who has played regularly and goes to the Fishergate bingo hall as often as three times a week, said: "At first I thought I'd won £50,000 and then when I heard it was double that I was shocked.

"The winnings will enable me to put some money aside for my granddaughter, who is only four weeks old, as well as having a good holiday and paying off my mortgage.

"It was the second time I've won on the National Game, and about five years ago I had a regional prize which was very enjoyable, but this is unbelievable."

She is one of a string of winners at the Fishergate Club.

In July, Pamela Dickinson from Acomb took home £81,000 and less than two months earlier Jean Pilmoor scooped £202,000.
