I WAS interested to hear about the number of affordable homes built during the first year of the Liberal Democratic administration announced by Coun Sunderland (November 12).
However, I was not surprised that Coun Sunderland didn't inform readers that planning permission for all these affordable homes was granted prior to June 2003, that is before the Liberal Democrats took control of the council.
Coun Sunderland also fails to inform your readers that all the Liberal Democrat councillors let down the people of this city by voting against implementing Labour's policy for 50 per cent affordable housing on new developments at the council meeting on November 9.
This policy has been subject to delay after delay under this administration since public consultation was first undertaken by Labour in the ppring of 2003.
I am pleased that 352 affordable homes are due to be built in this financial year.
But would have been even more pleased if this policy had been implemented last year and Coun Sunderland was announcing 704 affordable homes instead.
What a let down this administration is!
Coun Ruth Potter,
Labour housing
spokesperson,
Chaucer Street, York.
