I AM writing in response to George Moore's recent suggestion for an "information hotline" to help the police to address situations of crime and anti-social behaviour in our communities (Letters, November 17). Such a facility has been available since the mid-Eighties when Crimestoppers first came to the UK.
Anyone can leave anonymous information about those involved in crime or anti-social behaviour, and it will be fed directly to whichever police unit and/or local crime reduction partnership is best
suited and equipped for dealing with it.
Many prosecutions in North Yorkshire have been as a result of information left with Crimestoppers.
Furthermore, the Crimestoppers number - 0800 555 111 - is free to call. The only thing that the system needs more of is people with information calling the number.
That way, we can all work together to help improve the quality of life in our communities. Don't forget - 0800 555 111 - it's anonymous and free!
