IT was a good weekend for New Earswick and York Indoor Bowls Clubs women players, with victories over neighbouring North Yorkshire teams.
They both won their Yorkshire League fixtures, with New Earswick beating Selby 78-70 on aggregate to pick up seven points.
York steamrollered over Ryedale, winning all four rinks and collecting the maximum ten points with their 95-67 victory.
At Huntington Road, Peggy Walker, Diane Hardy, Maureen Cooper and Dottie Kay looked to have done enough to turn a tight game into their favour by scoring three shots to overturn an 18-16 deficit into a 19-18 lead with one end to play.
But on the balance of play the visitors got their just rewards and scored a single to level the final score.
Jeanette Coulson's rink were never really threatened as they won 21-12.
It was a similar story at Selby, where Margaret Moss picked up a four on the fourth end to lead for the first time 5-4 and never looked back after that, winning 21-15.
Brenda Keller's team did well to get back into their game after trailing 13-3 after nine ends. They had reduced the arrears to two at 19-17 behind going into the last end, but they dropped five shots to go down 24-17.
At Thanet Road, Carol Instone's team lost the last six ends of their game against Betty Stubbings' four, though the damage had already been done.
The home side had scored 25 shots, which included a six on the tenth, to only six against. The final score was 25-15.
Linda Harrison, Sue Tomlinson, Barbara Davison and Brenda Love were involved in a close match at 12-11 with seven ends to play, but then they eased away to win 21-14.
Trish Harrison, Helen Walker, Marilyn Andrews and Joyce Chelin scored a six on the second end at Ryedale to lead 16-9 after 13 ends. But five ends later the scores were tied at 17-17.
However, a four followed on the last end but a single sealed a 22-19 win for York.
Melanie Brooke's team scored a five followed by a two on the first two ends, which proved to be the difference at the end as they won 27-19.
Yorkshire Over-55s' League champions York made light work of their fixture against last season's runners-up Thornaby.
All four York rinks won comfortably to give them the maximum 18 points.
It was a different tale with York 'B', who struggled against title challengers Featherstone.
Dennis Haw's rink was the only one to win for York. They hung on to drop only a single on the last end and take the game 19-18.
Geoff Oglesby's rink earned a great 16-16 away draw, scoring a single followed by a two on the last two ends.
York's Under-18s had an excellent 39-14 aggregate victory against last season's division one runners-up Hornsea.
Phil Herridge, Adam Liddell and Zoe Eagles were tied at 6-6 against Scott Burrell's rink before pulling away to win five of the last seven ends to take the game 14-8.
Josh Cahill, Adam Tattersall and Jamie Lee had no problem in their game as they only lost three ends to win comfortably 25-6.
