AT certain times most days of the week, York Railway Station forecourt is full of waiting taxis.
They double park on the taxi rank in the middle of the road, they park on the bus stops and even encroach on to the approach to Queen Street bridge.
It should be obvious from this that there is a shortage of space, so what do our planners do? They propose a scheme to reduce the ranks even further (November 11).
Don't these planners ever go to ground level and ask the opinions of the people concerned? Or do they just sit in their ivory towers and think up more schemes that will upset the motorists and business people of York?
The drivers of Station Taxis pay a fee for their licence, they pay GNER for the privilege of serving rail passengers and also pay a high price to maintain their vehicles, so why restrict them from making a living?
