THE head teacher at a York school has praised the "excellent achievements" of pupils throughout the year at an annual prize-giving ceremony.
Kevin Deadman, of Canon Lee School, celebrated the school's achievements at a ceremony at the Salvation Army citadel.
Mr Deadman also praised the part played by parents, school staff, governors and the wider community in the school's success.
He said as a result of recent research the school was trying to encourage students to look past the grades they were given for their work to the comments telling them how they could improve.
He said: "At Canon Lee we believe that our students should benefit from the latest research where it can be shown to have a positive impact on learning and where it just makes good sense."
He said as a result of research the school had introduced a new approach to assessment called assessment for learning.
About 110 pupils were presented with prizes in a range of categories both academic and sporting by the guest of honour the Lord Mayor of York, Coun Janet Looker.
