UPWARDLY mobile York Acorn snatched a late field goal to claim another two points against Ince Rosebridge.
Andy Gargan struck with the scores at 22-22 to seal the win after a tight defensive display from both sides.
Acorn rocketed to a 16-0 lead with two tries from Jonny Waldron, playing in his second game in a matter of hours after his BARLA Under-21 match against the Combined Services the night before.
But the young winger was later taken to hospital with concussion after a clash of heads with centre partner Mike Embleton, who had also been in action on Friday for BARLA under-23s.
Steve Irvine added a try with two Gargan conversions to put them well in front.
But Rosebridge hit back as Acorn tired and made it 16-12 going into half time.
Lee McTigue gave Acorn the best possible start to the second half with another converted try but two more from Rosebridge levelled the scores with ten minutes to go.
Acorn made two attempts at setting for a drop goal knowing a try would be hard to come by with the defence so tight, and Gargan eventually found the room to put one over.
Acorn coach David Kay said: "The defences were on top as we expected them to be and they were obviously a very good team. But it was an excellent performance and an excellent away win."
The victory lifts them clear of Rosebridge to second in the table.
Two late Gavin Grant tries salvaged some respectability about Heworth's 18-38 defeat at home to Waterhead - but it was not enough to change the result.
Waterhead moved up to third after an easy win at Elmpark Way with three converted tries making it 18-2, and only Carl Potter's penalty reducing the deficit.
A fifth Waterhead try was ran in before Heworth got their first through Luke Judson but two more Waterhead efforts put them well clear before Grant's late double made it 18-38, two further Potter goals making up the Heworth tally.
