Selby's six-game unbeaten run came to an end on Saturday courtesy of a below-par first half performance which allowed Old Crossleyans establish a deserved 21-7 lead.
Despite a vast second-half improvement, which saw Selby almost totally dominate, the pressure simply was not converted into points as Old Crossleyans held on for a 21-19 win.
Selby started by far the brighter and took the lead when a scrum from a held up maul freed Shaun Austerfield to force his way over under the posts to give Dan Porter an easy conversion.
But poor tackling let Crossleyans back into the game with a try near the posts. Crossleyans remained on top and stretched the score to 21-7 by half time thanks in part to a try on the whistle.
The second half was almost a complete reversal with Selby on top despite a string of injuries and the pressure paid off when Andy Bennett ran down the blindside to crash over, Tony Pemberton missing a difficult conversion.
A scrum on the Crossleyans 15 saw Mathew Smith release from the ensuing ruck to backs centre Andy Gabel to go over under the posts to make it 21-19 with Pemberton's conversion.
But despite a degree of high drama for both sides in the dying minutes, Crossleyans held out to go level with Selby on points in Yorkshire One.
