HUNDREDS of adults and kids are aiming to slide into the record books at a York charity event next week.
Creepy Crawlies Adventure Playsite is seeking energetic volunteers for a 24-hour slide-a-thon on Friday in aid of BBC Children In Need.
The play centre in Clifton Moor hopes to earn a mention in the pages of the next Guinness Book Of World Records by getting as many adults and children as possible whizzing down its ten-metre long astroslide.
From 9am on Friday to 9am on Saturday, volunteers will take it in turns to slide down the four-lane slide, which stands at a height of 4.2 metres and forms part of the centre's main play frame.
Refreshments and encouragement will be in constant supply from spectators and fellow sliders, as well as from centre directors Sue Jones and Janice Dunphy.
Sue said: "You'll need plenty of stamina and energy, plus the willingness to raise lots of money for such a good cause and maybe even to create a new world record. And make sure you're wearing socks without holes in them!"
Since it opened on October 23, hundreds of York children have climbed, slid, tunnelled and danced in the fully-equipped play centre, which caters for kids aged from nought to 12 years.
Mothers of five young children between them, Sue and Janice were inspired to create the children's play haven after finding it difficult to keep all their kids entertained in one particular York venue.
"We both felt there was nowhere in the city where all kids could have fun. After a year of research, we came up with the idea for Creepy Crawlies, which offers a fantastic play experience for children, from babies to 12-year-olds, as well as being relaxing for their mums and dads," said Sue, who has three children, aged ten, seven and two.
Parents have a special seating area from where they can keep a close eye on their offspring as the children burn off some excess energy.
Babies and toddlers have their own separate play zone, complete with bean bags and a ball pool, while older kids can tackle the slides, tunnels, spooky caves and spinning discs of the main play frame. Provision has been made for children with special needs, with wheelchair access at the main frame for carers to help youngsters on to the equipment.
