Alex Lloyd finds that Selby has all the best tunes this weekend.

SELBY is the place to be this weekend with the launch of a new monthly dance night, R3tox.

A mix of techno, progressive, house and breaks, R3tox makes its debut at Club Seven, in Ousegate, tomorrow, and is a sister night to Hull-based Pure Techno.

The regular slot follows a Pure Techno event at the club in September, organised by Selby-based DJ Swiv. Swiv, or Adam as he is known by day, works for Tune Inn, the Selby record store which is regarded as one of the UK's best techno suppliers by the likes of Radio 1's Fergie, and has spawned the Tune Inn Records and Ying Yang labels.

He set up the one-off event to prove there was local demand for a techno night and is pleased he was correct.

"The last event went that well that the club owner has asked us to do it monthly," he says, adding that the new night will have a broader musical appeal as they are "trying to cater for everybody".

While a new name has been selected for the regular night, it retains links with Pure Techno and Tune Inn, whose DJs are among the 13 on the bill tomorrow.

Heading the line-up is Phil Walls, who has just released his debut EP, Summin Fresh, on Ying Yang Records, and is described by Adam as "arguably one of the hottest talents in the area".

Joining him in the main room are Swiv, Tony Sowerby and ex-Mint Club resident Gee, with visuals by Eyeball Toast. Room 2, known as the R3tox Groove Box where anything goes, will feature Bizkit, Andy Maile, Ben Jammin & AC Smales.

There is also a VIP lounge for ticket holders only, with sounds supplied by Miss'Perception, Myk, Swiv, Dave Rochester and Chris Thornton.

The next R3tox event is planned for Boxing Day, the highlight of which is a live PA from The Inspectorz, and Adam is seeking up-and-coming DJs who would like to play at future nights. Anyone interested should email swiv@puretechno.co.uk
