Among those North Yorkshire stars who made the headlines in 2004 were Easingwold sidecar start Steve Webster, who became the first man ever to win the British, European and World sidecar titles.

Middleham trainer Mark Johnston saw one of his horses, Attraction, make history, as she collected the English and Irish 1000 Guineas.

York's James Thompson ended his British Touring Car Championship career in triumph with a last-gasp title victory before moving on to the World Touring Car Championship.

They are just some of the key sporting figures of 2004 from this area.

There are several categories, including Team of the Year, Hall of Fame and Unsung Hero, where those who are the backbone of sport earn recognition.
