BATTLING City of York men's hockey first team tamed leaders Brooklands MU II by twice coming from behind to draw 2-2.

The visitors, the top side in the Northern Hockey League premier division, were annoyed by several decisions they felt went against them and had two men sin-binned.

But there was no doubting under-strength York were worth a point despite the absence of Welsh Under-21 midfielder Pete Evans and Nick Carter, who pulled a calf muscle in training.

Brooklands took an 11th-minute lead from a short corner but Ben Foster picked up a bad back pass, beat two defenders and rounded the 'keeper to equalise.

City's defence, which included Matt Couttie in the centre and John Jenkin and Luke Ramli on either flank, came under a lot of pressure before Brooklands regained their lead.

York levelled again as Kyle Hogg prepared to shoot his stick was knocked away and Ollie Couttie netted the resulting penalty stroke.

Goals by Rob Anderson (penalty stroke), Lee Cuffe and Matthew Redwood gave City of York II a 3-1 come-from-behind victory at Lincoln I in NHL division two east.

York were well served in midfield by Peter Richardson and John McRory.

Andy Wilson scored a hat-trick as City of York IV beat Huddersfield III 4-2 in Yorkshire League division fpur. Malcolm Cossey scored the other York goal.

City of York V shared ten goals with Sheffield Hallam IV after being 2-0 up from David da Silva and Richard Cockram.

Sam Jones made it 3-1 but Sheffield's veteran Yorkshire centre-forward Richard Yardley levelled.

Wayne Stevens regained the lead for York from a well-taken short corner before Hallam took the lead for the first time. Jones' second strike ensured the share-all.

City of York VI made it four wins in a row as they thrashed Bradford III 7-0 under the leadership of new skipper Greg Sykes.

He led by example with a couple of goals with Les Reed (2), Stuart Burke, Ben Hildreth and Alex Herriott completing the rout.

Tim Jolly and Richard Tanner-Smith were on target as City of York VI drew 2-2 at Harrogate V.
