A York Green Business Club will be launched in the city on Wednesday.
The club, which will provide free help and advice on how businesses can save money by adopting environmentally-friendly business practices, will be formed at an 8am breakfast seminar at the York Hilton Hotel, opposite Clifford's Tower.
The initiative is a partnership between the City of York Council, waste and recycling firm Yorwaste and the York and North Yorkshire Environmental Forum.
Subscribing members will seek ways of improving their policies on waste, recycling and energy efficiency.
Wednesday's first seminar will provide information on how firms can reduce, re-use and recycle their waste, including offering details of the City of York Council's cardboard recycling service.
Further seminars are planned, which will focus on other aspects of waste and recycling as well as energy efficiency.
Katie Harvey, environmental co-ordinator for the York and North Yorkshire Environmental Forum, said: "The long-term aim of the group is to demonstrate York's commitment to the environment and work in partnership with other business support groups to increase the image of the city and ensure that it remains a popular and attractive place to visit and work.
"The group will also provide an excellent opportunity to network and share good business practices, and collectively ensure less waste is sent to landfill and less carbon is emitted to the atmosphere."
