I WAS surprised this week to receive my first communication from the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution (RMBI) regarding the controversial development they propose at Connaught Court.
Their letter says that they are "keen to maintain a dialogue with our neighbours in the community of Fulford". This is something of a surprise, given that, to date, they have had no discussion with the community whatsoever - not even with those who will be seriously affected by the development.
Have they been stung into action by John Grogan MP's remark that they are the most "difficult and aloof organisation" he has had to deal with (October 6)?
I should not be churlish. Perhaps the letter is a sign that light is finally dawning at the RMBI.
Perhaps they are realising that no one, not even a charity, can ride roughshod over the community, in pursuit of money.
