COUN Sue Galloway's remarks that nobody has come forward to support Acomb Community Centre are incorrect ("Anger over community plan delay", October 29).
The Danebury Drive Project was set up for this purpose two years ago involving residents, allotment holders, councillors, council employees and the housing association.
This has now been incorporated into the Carr Association meetings and the Acomb Ward meetings. Part of the proposals for the housing development of the allotment site was the provision of a community centre. This is why the allotment holders agreed to forfeit the land: not only would we get better security and 20 affordable houses, but the community would also benefit by the provision of the community centre.
Now after two years, from the comments made by Coun Galloway it would appear that the community is not going to get the centre.
If I had known this then, no way would I, as an allotment holder, have supported housing on the allotment land. I feel we have been hoodwinked by the Lib Dems.
The Carr residents have been kicked in the teeth.
