IT is good to see that Coun Keith Aspden has woken up to the widespread concern of Fulford residents about the development proposed in the grounds of Connaught Court, Fulford (Letters, November 2).
Councillors from all three parties (Lib Dem, Labour, and Green) are now supporting the residents in their opposition campaign.
However, Keith does not refer to the fact that many residents are unhappy that this application has been tabled to be considered on December 23, an ideal time for "burying bad news".
Many, including myself, are already suspicious of the relationship between the application to fell "dangerous" beech trees (that provided sound timber and no evidence of weakness after felling) and the subsequent planning application featuring car parking and nearby buildings in this location.
I am still awaiting a response from the council officer investigating a complaint about the felling approval.
In terms of the development itself, key concerns are not only the traffic impact but also the proposed new access road that would destroy the remaining sense of separation that contributes to Fulford's village identity.
This would also further restrict parking for church services, weddings and funerals.
I would urge all concerned residents to engage with the consultation process and write individual letters to the planner concerned, Darren Hendley, City of York Council, 9, St Leonard's Place, York YO1 7ET, and contact your local councillors - Keith Aspden, myself or Coun Mark Hill.
Coun Andy D'Agorne
Green Party, Fishergate Ward,
Broadway West, York.
