Alex Lloyd introduces music for House fans.
HOUSE music fans should head to the Little John Cellar Bar tonight for one-off event Fine Cut.
Paul Alker and DJ duo Tribal Warriors will be providing the evening's soundtrack, which will be a mix of tech-house, breakbeat and tribal. There has been one previous Fine Cut event, which took place at the Little John, in Castlegate, in February and organiser Paul hopes this could be the start of something more regular.
"It's not very big but we are hoping to make space in the middle for a dancefloor," he says. "We always start off a little more chilled, then we got people up and dancing last time once everyone had had a few drinks."
The 18-year-old York College student and council youth worker is one of the city's many amateur DJs, having played at a number of events at the Railway Institute, in Holgate, as well as Korona at the City Screen Basement Bar.
He is a fan of DJs Craig Richards and Mo'Wax supremo James Lavelle. "I have been playing gigs for the past year but I started DJ-ing in my bedroom about two years ago," he said. "It came from listening to dance music like Fatboy Slim and the Chemical Brothers and I thought 'I would quite like to give it a go'."
Paul intends to kick things off tonight, warming-up the crowd with his tech-house sound. Look out plenty promos of new tunes, he says.
Once things are in full swing, Tribal Warriors will take over. The duo, who have previously played at The Mint Club, in Leeds, have a "darker, tribal-edged" sound.
While Paul doesn't aspire to become a superstar DJ, he has been working on his own tracks, with Tribal Warriors, who are hoping to take a record out of the Miami Music Conference next year.
With Miami regarded as the place to make or break dance tunes, you could be hearing a lot more of these guys next year. Catch them while you can.
Fine Cut at the Little John Cellar Bar, Castlegate, tonight, 8pm-11pm, £2.
