THE Scottish Fiddle Orchestra has performed annually at the York Barbican attracting near-capacity audiences.
As the Barbican Centre closes its doors, the orchestra is making arrangements to maintain its links with the city, in the hope that it will be able to return to the Barbican when the auditorium re-opens.
As well as being very popular with York concert-goers, the orchestra attracts several hundred people to the city for the weekend of its annual visits, which have been sponsored by GNER.
The replacement venue which has been chosen is the York University Central Hall, and the next concert will be on Saturday, April 23, 2005.
This hall is a little smaller than the Barbican, and is only viable for the orchestra as an interim alternative to the Barbican auditorium.
Information on the 2005 event is available from the orchestra on 01506 842628.
The Scottish Fiddle Orchestra would like to thank the staff of the Barbican Centre for their enthusiasm and professionalism in hosting and promoting its concerts so successfully over the last eight years.
