AN OFSTED report describing a York primary school as "satisfactory and improving" is a step in the right direction, according to the head.
Nick Long, head teacher at Haxby Road Primary School, said the school had been through "some turbulence" in recent years and the latest inspection being a success was a credit to all the hard work that had been going on behind the scenes.
The report stated that children in the nursery and reception classes achieved well, and pupils' achievements in ICT and mathematics were good throughout the school, as a result of good teaching and learning.
The report also made reference to the very good provision in the Speech and Language Centre, which in turn had led to the very good achievement of pupils with speech and communication difficulties.
The Ofsted inspectors stated that areas for development at the school included providing more opportunities for writing across the curriculum, and ensuring that full use was made of assessment information to improve pupils' learning.
