Ryan Tate was the hero for Melbourne as his powerful header on the half-hour mark decided a titanic battle against Wigginton Grasshoppers.
This proved to be the only goal of the game and thus sent his side through to the next round of the York FA Sunday Afternoon Cup.
Dave O'Connor was outstanding in defence for Melbourne, who were also indebted to keeper Adam Thomas for a double penalty save.
A 20-yard shot after 60 minutes by Richard Lawson put Forest FC ahead against Shoulder of Mutton and Steward MacDonald ran through to increase the lead.
Shoulder of Mutton scored late on but Forest held on for a 2-1 win.
The only goal in a hard-fought game between Rose & Crown 2004 and White Swan Bubwith came from the smallest player on the pitch, White Swan's man of the match Paul Musson, who headed into the net to finish off a set-piece move.
