I WOULD like to invite readers to come to an unusual event at York's Environmental Community Centre at St Nicholas Fields, Tang Hall this Friday, November 5.
The evening is in two halves. From 4.30pm York Rotters will hold an active composting demonstration and from 6pm to 8.30pm York LETS (Local Exchange Trading System) is hosting a friendly social. Both activities are open to all.
LETS members can buy and sell goods and services using a local currency, Yorkys, and there will be a trading table at the centre with all sorts of things for sale.
You can join the system on the night (£4 for one year) and will be given a LETS check book and directory to help you trade. The evening will have "bring and share" nibbles, wine tasting, music and children's entertainment.
A member of York Rotters will be building a demonstration compost heap to show how easy it is to recycle prunings and kitchen waste.
The Rotters were set up by the council and St Nicks to promote composting, which is the best way to turn garden waste into fertile soil and avoid pollution from landfill or bonfires.
We won't be having a bonfire - a garden "quiet shredder" will be available to recycle prunings brought to fuel the compost heap.
For more information, please try www.stnicksfields.org.uk or ring me on York 422344 for more details.

York LETS Member and
