I AM sorry to inform you that water fluoridation will not solve the dental health problem in Yorkshire.
I come from Hamilton NZ which has been fluoridated for many years. The children's teeth are worse than ever. A recent survey conducted by the district health board discovered that the problem is worst in the poorer areas. The reason being they eat more sugar and do not brush.
I know it is tempting to look for a quick fix but water fluoridation does not work because it does not change the causes of decay. And do not forget - these children do not drink water.
If you are seriously concerned about these children, then do the right thing and improve their diet and personal hygiene habits. It is not only their teeth that are at risk - it is their health. Excessive sugar is the cause of obesity - the western world's greatest killer.
These children do not need a "sticking plaster" on their problem. They need life skills. Do the right thing, not the easy thing.
