THE closure to traffic of Walmgate Bar (Evening Press, October 28), one of four pivotal points in the city of York, will cause undue traffic delays and also damage business in the Walmgate area.
Surely a better solution could be found?
If drivers cannot remember the height of the vehicles they drive, surely a bar could be erected at the entrance, as most car parks in the city have?
This would not restrict smaller vehicles using our beautiful city. I understand that large vehicles are not suitable in our narrow streets, although unfortunately businesses delivery vehicles are getting bigger.
This may be a temporary measure, but trial schemes often end up being permanent, even though logic dictates that they do not work. I hope this will be an instance where common sense prevails.
