REGARDING Tom Stirling's article "Gridlock fears over closed bar" (October 28). Providing that York traffic planners have done their sums right and have learned how to mark out the road, there should be no more than two or three seconds added on to journey times.
And that only applies to traffic coming into Walmgate as it will have to negotiate an S-bend, with the traffic lights relocated some 20 yards back from their present position. However, I see no reason to cut Lawrence Street down to two lanes.
With the relocation of the existing traffic lights on Walmgate there is no need for the time delay between Foss Islands Road lights going to red and the Walmgate lights starting their red/amber sequence.
The delay will have to be extended on the Barbican Road to Foss Islands Road. If each set of lights has the same amount of time on green as they do at present I cannot see why the traffic should be any more chaotic than it is at present.
