Tom Greenall, who rode two winners at Sedgefield yesterday, can carry on the good work tomorrow on the first day of Wetherby's exciting weekend programme.

Greenall, a son of Aintree chairman Lord Daresbury, and attached to Mick Easterby's Sheriff Hutton yard, teams up with his boss aboard Gary's Pimpernel in the Walshford Intermediate Handicap Hurdle.

The five-year-old scored nicely under Greenall at Hexham last month and, although he faces tougher opposition tomorrow, an encore looks on the cards.

Easterby, who sent out Blue Buster to justify favouritism at Sedgefield yesterday, can also win the £10,000 Rocom Handicap Hurdle with Middlethorpe.

A previous winner over this course and distance, Middlethorpe should be fit and well for his return to jumping, following a recent outing on the Flat.

The opening Paddy Farrell Memorial Conditional Jockeys' Novices' Handicap Hurdle remembers the late York jockey, who was one of the best in the north before a crashing fall in the Grand National in the early 1960s left him paralysed from the waist down. A great character, and a brave man, Paddy used to love to visit Wetherby, and would be most approving of tomorrow's race, which gives a helping hand to aspiring riders.

The honours could well go to Green'N' Gold, trained at Middleham by Micky Hammond, and a horse who has already shown decent form this season. He will be partnered by rising star Owyn Nelmes, a talented amateur last season, who has now joined the professional ranks.

Malcolm Jefferson has his horses in fine form, a fact underlined by the all-the-way win by Calatagan at Cheltenham yesterday, and the Norton trainer could post another success, courtesy of Stamparland Hill in the £12,000 bet365 White Rose Handicap Chase.

A winner on his comeback start at Carlisle three weeks ago, Stamparland Hill, a keen-going sort who has spoiled his chances in the past by racing too freely, has only to repeat that level of performance to make a bold bid tomorrow. Vinny Keane again has the mount.

At Newmarket, Land 'N Stars carries the nap vote into battle in the Subscribe To Racing UK on 08700 860432 Handicap over two miles.

Jamie Poulton's four-year-old was also my nap in the Cesarewitch Handicap on this course a couple of weeks ago and, although he didn't win, he ran a blinder at a big price to finish a close-up sixth. He deserves another chance.

Iktibas, a winner on his debut last month, can take a successful step up in class in the James Seymour Stakes, a Listed event.
