JIM Collis's Tadcaster Albion will be pitched against former World Cup captain Socrates next month.
Northern Counties East League division one rivals Garforth Town have snapped up the 50-year-old Brazilian legend as a player-coach on an initial month-long deal - starting at home to Tadcaster Albion on November 20.
The midfielder, still with trademark beard and haircut, starred in the 1986 and 1982 World Cups, scoring in their 3-2 quarter-final defeat to Italy in 82.
The move has come about through manager Simon Clifford's connections to Brazil with his skills-based football schools.
Socrates will follow Manchester United star Lee Sharpe to the club, another name drafted in to help out Clifford, whose work away from Garforth and his schools has included Bend It Like Beckham.
The signing will turn up the heat on an already hot race for the NCEL division one championship. Tadcaster Albion, only beaten once in the league, are currently second on goal difference to Sutton, with Garforth two points behind in third.
