VETERAN former York Wasps hooker Alan Pallister starred as another top class performance kept New Earswick All Blacks joint-top of Pennine League division two.

Pallister pipped prop Eddie Keeping and loose-forward Chris Judge, another ex-Wasp, to the man of the match accolade as the All Blacks won 38-10 at Silsden Park Rangers.

The hosts started the better and went 8-0 up courtesy of a converted try and penalty, but All Blacks hit back to lead 20-8, reduced just before half-time to 20-10.

That penalty proved to be the hosts' last points as the All Blacks ran in three converted tries without reply after the break.

Dave Carling, playing in the second row, had an eventful game, opening the visitors' account with a penalty and adding three first-half conversions before being sin-binned after a flare-up with an opposing forward, who was also yellow-carded.

All Blacks' tries had come from Matt Godfrey, after half-backs Carl Pallister and Ben Jones sent him in, Jones, who dummied in, and Godfrey again, after he gathered a Silsden spill to race home from 40 yards.

The second half saw Silsden resort to niggling tactics as they struggled to cope with All Blacks' fitness, which on one occasion saw Judge react to a punch and join his opponent in the sin-bin.

Carling put over the penalty and then converted his own try after more good work from the half-backs.

Jones scored the try of the match after fielding a kick near his own line and side-stepping three men on his way to the corner, before Jez Petch ended the try-scoring from a pass by Alan Pallister, Carling goaling for a personal haul of 18 points.

Selby Warriors and York Groves both made it through the preliminary round of the Pennine League's Andrew Bennett Memorial Trophy.

Warriors won 38-16 at Clayton 'A', while Groves were handed an 18-0 victory over struggling Keighley Albion 'A' in two all-division five clashes.

Heworth 'A' moved up to fourth in Yorkshire League division three after a 30-0 result over Featherstone Lions.

Ironically, York Acorn 'A', previously unbeaten this season, were the only York and District side to suffer defeat this weekend. They lost 11-10 at title rivals Wyke and slip to third in Pennine League division four.
