I am attempting to write a family history, a very important part of which is my father's service with the Royal Marines. He served with the 40 Commandos throughout the second world war and beyond.
I have obtained his record of service from the MOD and have also got a copy of 'By Sea and Land' by James Ladd. This is the official record of the Royal Marines, which is authorised by MOD.
If anyone has any personal records/memories of service with the Royal Marines I would be delighted to hear from them. Hopefully there is someone out there who can put some reality into the facts, figures and statistics that I have managed to get hold of. Sadly throughout his life my father would never discuss his service.
It was only in the weeks prior to his death at the age of 67, when the nightmares came back to haunt him, that we had an all-too-brief insight into his nightmares. Can anyone help?
If so please ring me on 01904 790732.
