IT was interesting to see the letter from the head teacher of Haxby Road Primary School thanking people for attending the school's centenary celebrations (October 19).
I left Haxby Road in the 1960s, and have never been back. I was delighted to find out that they were to celebrate their 100th birthday, and contacted the school in the early spring asking if I could go along. I was promised that an invitation would be sent to me, but sadly this was not forthcoming.
I assumed the celebration had been cancelled, and it was not until I saw the report in the Evening Presss that I realised it had gone ahead. Perhaps more ex-pupils would have turned up if they had been informed it was taking place.
