YORK Rugby Union Club's fledgling under-16 team were knocked out of the Yorkshire Cup by a Hull Ionians side that have not been beaten in three years.
The visitors, who boasted several county standard players, ran out 42-0 winners in the second round clash but, despite fielding an under-strength pack of forwards, York showed great commitment in the tackle and ruck zones.
York's spirited tackling was typified by scrum-half Matt Hargreaves. He regularly drove back much bigger opponents with spectacular effect.
Hull led 15-0 at half-time and piled on more points in the second half after York were forced to make changes because of injuries.
