GREAT to see you giving prominence to the issue of street clutter (Our streets are too cluttered, October 18).
Here in Bishopthorpe, we are working on the Bishopthorpe@Crossroads project that aims to improve an area in the centre of the village. We have held a street audit and every household has had a questionnaire.
Pedestrian safety and visual clutter are just two of the issues that have been raised by residents. Of the 17 street signs, most are in the conservation area.
The Bishopthorpe Millennium Trust is preparing a design for the area that we hope will be a template for long-term improvements. This can reduce the effect of incremental degradation of the area through uncoordinated and one-size-fits-all changes.
The Bishopthorpe@Crossroads project is supported by local volunteers, the City of York Council ward committee and the parish council. More information can be found at www.bishopthorpe.net/mt/crossroads.
