THE parish of Alne is strongly opposed to the early ending of the trial of new circuits flown from Linton-on-Ouse (Full Circle, October 16).

We support the RAF but are simply asking for a fair distribution of noise around the airfield. The new trial circuits go a long way to achieving this; the previous circuits did not.

Now, because of a professional campaign waged by one parish in particular, the concept of fairness looks likely to be overturned.

Members of the Hambleton District Council scrutiny committee cited safety as one reason for their proposed ending of the trial. But the base commander, Grp Capt Harrison, is on record as saying that as far as safety is concerned, "it makes not a jot of difference which circuits are flown".

We urge Hambleton District Council to leave the trial in place while a proper evaluation of a fair distribution of noise on the local population is undertaken.
