THE worst kept secret in rugby league was confirmed today when Danny Brough's move to Hull FC was officially announced.
The record-breaking York City Knights scrum-half, man of the match in last week's LHF Healthplan National League One Qualifying Final, will follow outgoing Knights head coach Richard Agar to the KC Stadium.
The 21-year-old (pictured) has signed a two-year deal with the Airlie Birds, with the Knights receiving the same fee they paid Dewsbury Rams last year.
Part of the agreement will also see Hull take on the Knights in a pre-season friendly, either next year or in 2006, depending on both clubs' commitments.
Knights chief executive Steve Ferres said: "He's had an excellent season and has been a credit to the club.
"I'm delighted he's got the opportunity to play in Super League and I hope he goes on to prove himself at that level. If it doesn't work out, I hope he would look at his options back at York, but I really hope he makes the grade."
The Evening Press can reveal that Brough signed a pre-contract arrangement with the Airlie Birds last May.
Ferres added: "To Danny's credit, he has concentrated on his job with the Knights, scoring more than 400 points."
Brough this year set all-time York RL records of 412 points in a season, smashing Graham Steadman's 1984-85 best of 318, and of 178 goals in a season, eclipsing Vic Yorke's record of 146 set in the 1957-58 campaign.
Brough signed for York from home-town team Dewsbury in May last year, making his debut at stand-off in the disappointing draw with London Skolars. He then switched to scrum-half and has since been an ever-present last season and this, the only player to play all 36 games this year.
He played a total of 53 games in all for the Knights scoring 20 tries, 265 goals and six drop goals for a total of 616 points.
Meanwhile, Jim Elston and Yusuf Sozi have re-signed for the Knights for next season.
