MOTORISTS faced misery on two stretches of the A64 yesterday after separate incidents brought held up traffic.
The westbound carriageway was blocked for a short time as firefighters dealt with a lorry fire near the Fulford interchange.
Emergency services were called to the stretch between Grimston Bar and Fulford when the 44-tonne truck caught fire at about 4pm. The road was cleared by 6.30pm.
Almost one hour later, traffic was affected by a crash between a lorry and a tractor towing a trailer carrying straw bales, near the westbound Malton bypass, half a mile from the Pickering interchange.
Police said the collision happened when the lorry, following the tractor and a small hatchback car, tried to overtake. The hatchback pulled out and the blue lorry collided with the tractor.
The trapped lorry driver was released by firefighters and taken to Scarborough General Hospital for treatment to minor leg injuries.
Police today said they were trying to trace the grey or possible dark blue hatchback car. Anyone with information should phone 01723 509555.
