DOOLALLY is Jez Lowe's 14th album of original songs since his debut in 1980.
Using his well-honed skills as a songwriter, the prolific Lowe transforms ordinary people, living ordinary lives in his native north-east, into universal characters. His band, The Bad Pennies, create vivid sound-scapes out of Lowe's compositions. The title track is a gem, telling the story of Dennis Donnini, a son of Italian immigrants who became the youngest British soldier to be posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross in the Second World War. York fiddler Kate Bramley takes over lead vocals for the band's concert favourite Regina Inside, composed after Lowe played for the Queen on the site of the closed colliery at Easington, County Durham in 2001.
