THE launch of the York Primary School Athletics Programme was held this week.

After a successful pilot scheme run last year by Neil Gulliver, the area's development officer for athletics, the Oaklands Sports Partnership is running a series of training sessions at each primary school.

Schools will then compete against each other in their family groups. The winners of each group will eventually meet in a final to be held at Millthorpe on November 23.

The competition will include the javelin, speed bounce, triple jump, long jump and obstacle race.

YORK City Schoolboys take their league challenge all the way to South Nottingham on Saturday.

Both the under-12 and under-13 squads will make the journey, meeting at A64 McDonalds at 8am prompt.

The U11s game at Hull has been brought forward to tomorrow (5pm).
