A YORK mother was given the birthday treat of her life when a brass band serenaded her as she lay in bed.
Lu Mason, an occupational therapist, woke to the sound of the five-piece band, known as Fanfare, who performed under her bedroom window in Lindley Street, Holgate, at 7am yesterday.
It was a special surprise to celebrate her 50th birthday from her husband, Peter Baker.
Lu's neighbours were also woken by the band and came out into the street in their pyjamas and dressing gowns to listen.
They played Happy Birthday, Thank Heavens For Little Girls and two horn concertos.
"It was fantastic, I knew nothing about it," said Lu.
"I've always had a real fondness for music with trumpets and cornets."
Mr Baker said: "She was woken by the band, which was a great start to her day."
