Wetherby opens its door for its exciting winter season tomorrow with a quality programme as the backdrop to its 14th annual charity meeting in aid of Spinal Research.
Hard-working organiser Rachel Wright, from Stamford Bridge, has been instrumental in raising more than £200,000 from the 13 previous racedays for the national charity, which funds research into finding a cure for paralysis caused by injury to the spinal chord.
Wright has even recruited northern jockeys to help her cause tomorrow, with 15 well-known riders, including Graham Lee, Tony Dobbin, Richard McGrath and Russ Garritty forking out £100 each to sponsor the opening juvenile novices' hurdle.
McGrath could find himself aboard the winner. He partners the Keith Reveley-trained Hernando's Boy and this recent Kelso scorer may be able to put his superior experience to good advantage, despite a 7lb penalty.
McGrath and Reveley also have good prospects in the Mercatum Novices' Hurdle with nap selection Rambling Minster.
The six-year-old was a winner on this course back in May, looking to all the world like a horse open to plenty of improvement.
The skybet.com Supporting Spinal Research Bobby Renton Handicap Chase, which boasts prize money of £17,000, is the feature race.
This two-and-a-half miles contest looks a good opportunity for Log On Intersky to start the campaign on a winning note. Howard Johnson's gelding is a very capable performer on his day and is up to winning this with Graham Lee on board.
The 'Wishing Mary Reveley A Happy Retirement' Handicap Hurdle has £15,000 up for grabs and Richard Fahey could hold the key with Turn Of Phrase.
Padge Whelan's mount finished a good third under a big weight at Sedgefield last time.
Tomorrow's Flat action centres around the all-weather meeting at Lingfield, where Frankie Dettori looks to have a useful book of mounts.
Dettori, whose arch-rival in the championship battle, Kieren Fallon, ended up in hospital after a heavy fall at Leicester yesterday, can start the way he means to go on aboard Nautical in the Bet Direct Classified Stakes.
